rewrite much of the vision statement to make it better reflect the goals and values of the members
Were we going to vote on a version that only has the second graf? Or just this one? |
This final output still reads awkwardly to me for some reason... sorry to suggest edits to something that has already received near universal consensus but how about something along these lines with some embellishments added, feel free to cut any or all of it 😅 -A globally connected humanity is now a major driver of diverse earth system processes, creating a complex, planetary
-socio-ecological-technological system that exceeds our innate capacity to anticipate the consequences of societal
-decisions and actions. Modeling is critical to enhancing ethical analytical and decision-making capabilities for policy
-and planning, environmental management, resource investment, and security preparedness.
+A globally connected humanity is now a major driver of many earth system processes, creating a planetary
+socio-ecological-technological system whose complex dynamics exceed our innate abilities to anticipate the full
+consequences of our societal (_collective?_) decisions and actions. Modeling is critical to enhance the ethically
+grounded and evidence-driven analytical and decision making capabilities we need for effective and responsive policy and
+planning, environmental management, resource investment, and hazard preparedness.
-Our vision is to enable open and ethical modeling efforts across domains of human and Earth systems sciences and
-engineering to work together to provide an integrated representation of the complex world in which we now live. This
-vision can be realized through a common suite of standards, protocols, and best practices that enables modeling
-scientists to share knowledge and build on one another’s research.

Updated it to use a diff syntax instead. They're fairly minor changes, trying to smooth over the "ethical analytical" grab bag of words but not sure if I'm adding unintended semantics |
